How ADHD Can Show Up in Adults

Difficulty starting tasks, even ones that matter

Exhaustion from the constant effort of keeping up

A busy, restless mind rather than a restless body

Losing track of time, appointments or details

Attention problems aren't always ADHD. Anxiety, depression, poor sleep, and burnout can look similar, and telling them apart is part of the evaluation.

Evaluation and Treatment

Evaluation begins with a full-hour appointment covering your history, how attention affects your work and relationships, and the role of sleep, mood, and stress.

Treatment is chosen together. Stimulant medications are the most studied and effective for many adults. Non-stimulant options, such as atomoxetine, viloxazine, guanfacine, or bupropion, suit adults who prefer to avoid stimulants or haven't tolerated them.

The approach is to start low, adjust carefully, and pair medication with attention to sleep, exercise, and daily structure.
